Did you knowt that first self-winding pocket watches were made by Le Locle's watchmaker Abraham Louis Perelet in around 1770. Another Swiss watchmaker and innovator Abraham Louis Breguet soon improved the movement design. For a long time though self winding watches were considered no more than a novelty rather than a marketable concept. It wasn't until 1923 when the British firm Harwood simplified the auto winding mechanism that idea of self-winding watch took off again. | |
